What you think readers will like best about these books:
Think about everything you love about a Saturday night at the movies and that’s what you’ll find in this series. The Star books are romantic, refreshing and popping with adventure, and each story has a fully fleshed out heroine who can more than hold her own with her space rogue hero. I like to think that these groundbreaking books helped pave the way for the romances we read today where heroines of all ages, colors, and even species are totally cool!
The person that readers want you to write about but you haven’t yet:
Klark Vedla! My readers know how much I love to redeem my bad guys. Klark evolved into such a cool character over the course of the Star series that I’m determined to give him his own book someday. It will be titled The Star… Oh, shoot, I don’t know. What do you think?
What’s next?
Sureblood, my space pirate book from HQN, comes out this August! Two rival space pirate captains with a past must put aside their mistrust and join forces to protect their clans–and their precious son.
For more than 10 years I’ve been writing about civilizations beyond the stars, and alien invasions–and making it romantic, and sexy, too. But, forget about other worlds. How about those otherworldly men? Who better to make your breath catch than a good-looking hero from far, really far away? So, is it Anakin or Darth? Han Solo or Luke Skywalker? Spock or Kirk? (Spock girl here, just for the record). Or, can there be any example of the male species more delicious and endearing than Jake Sully’s avatar in the blockbuster sci-fi movie Avatar? A button-nosed, 9-foot-tall BLUE guy…with a TAIL. Scrumptious, I tell you. So what otherworldly man sends you to the moon?
I hope you’ll “come fly with me” at my website www.susangrant.com where you’ll find links to my blog, books, my Facebook page, and my new contest to celebrate the re-release of the Star Trilogy!

Dark Stranger, by Susan Sizemore
Setting: POW camp on alien world in the far future
Subgenre: vampire romance/futuristic romance
Hero: Matthias “Doc” Raven, Prime vampire, doctor, marine general
Heroine: Zoe Pappas, diplomat, Imperial Princess
One sentence summary: Vampires in space…! (For those who recall The
Muppet Show.)
Scene you like most and would never cut: The scene where Doc saves Zoe
from being murdered by Jazoan. It’s where both their secret identities
are revealed.
Thing your heroine would never be caught dead doing/saying: “Off with
their heads!” She takes her duties as heir to the Byzant Empire too
seriously to say that sort of thing — even when she’s tempted.
Your hero, is he a boxer or brief kind of guy: He’d probably be more
likely to go commando, but let’s say briefs.
Ancillary character you had the most fun with: There are actually two
in DARK STRANGER. One is Maria, who I hope to someday write a book
about. Where Zoe has to be discreet and diplomatic, Maria gets to say
and do more action oriented things.
And Adams. He’s a rebel-rouser and firebrand and protests against
everything that most people in the pow camp believe in. Zoe, the
heroine, does a lot of verbal sparring with Adams. He’s a pain in the
ass, but comes through loyally when the time comes.
Your heroine’s favorite hobby: Studying history.
Your hero’s favorite hobby: Well, he has a lovely singing voice.
What you think readers will like best about this book:
The characters of Zoe and Doc. I fell in love with this couple while I
wrote their story, and I think readers will too. I hope that readers
are fascinated enough by these characters that they want to know more
about their lives. Because I certainly want to write more about them.
The person that readers want you to write about but you haven’t yet:
Flare Reynard, the sister of the hero of I BURN FOR YOU. Flare was in
one scene in the very first Primes book and I’ve been getting email
asking for her story ever since. I also used her in a couple of scenes
in PRIMAL NEEDS. I’ve been surprised at the impression she made on
readers with so little space devoted to her. She’s spoiled and
temperish and knows very well that she’s the most beautiful female
vampire of her generation. You wouldn’t think readers would like her,
but the response to her has been very positive.
What’s next: A book about Flare Reynard. Her story finally popped into
my head, so I’m writing her romance next, in PRIMAL INSTINCTS.
For Discussion:
Sometimes a book demands to be written, such was the case with DARK
STRANGER. The characters and plot popped into my head and wouldn’t let
me rest until their story was told. I call this an Attack Book. Said
Attack Book was a story with characters from my Primes vampire romance
universe — but it wasn’t. Let me explain. The hero, Matthias Raven is
a vampire Prime of the Corvus Clan, but he lives several hundred years
in the future. Once his love story with mortal Zoe Pappas was
finished, I sat back and wondered what the heck to do with this book.
Where did it belong in the order of a series of vampire books set in the 21st Century? Then a question popped into my head: what do
vampires read?
The answer was, how about a futuristic romance featuring one of their own called DARK STRANGER? Which is how what I call the Vampire Bookclub was born. I introduced the bookclub in a scene in PRIMAL NEEDS where the heroine reads DARK STRANGER aloud to the hero while they are on a long drive. I really want to know what readers think of DARK STRANGER, and of the Vampire Bookclub.
What do you think the next selection should be?
