HAPPY NEW YEAR!
2011 is here . . . 2010 come & gone . . . things change, people change, books change & we’re happy with that. We’re told, change is good. When we experience change, we’re happy with it for the most part: new hair color can be a welcome change; weight loss is a healthy change. Our New Year’s Resolution’s all require change of some sort - write more books; get published; read more; find more alone time &/or family time; find that HEA. All in all, we seem to want change, right? So then, why do we fear it?
Oh, come now, be honest - you want change — you want to meet that HEA but you hate having to go out & find him, then you’re nervous when you meet him & then to go on a date with him, etc. . . we’re afraid of what might, or might not happen, or how you look, act & so on.
I just finished a very insightful story, ALREADY HOME, in bookstores 3/29/2011. Jenna & Violet are two women that have had very difficult past lives & both are trying to start anew. Jenna is a new divorcee who has recently moved back to her hometown. Not sure what to do with herself, she opens a cooking store & hires Violet who turns out to be a very savvy business woman & manager. Violet too, had a different past life & is looking to change that. Early on in the story, each character meets a gentleman & begins dating . . . a change in their lives both were looking for, but were afraid to encounter. Jenna can’t help compare Ellington to her ex; &, Violet thinks she’s met the man of her dreams with Cliff, however, won’t let her past get out of her way making her feel like she is not good enough for him.
Both characters want change but find it difficult allowing themselves that opportunity. There is insecurity, or doubt that affects them both that almost sabotages their success.
Needless to say, this book is authored by Susan Mallery & she delivers a very satisfying, happy ending . . . a must buy for sure! This is great for you fiction fans & book reader group types, as Susan makes her readers think about each character & her situation to where you can almost relate to their dilemmas, which prompts great group discussion.
Now, that brings us to our question for discussion — & what a great one at that, as it has to do with our New Years Resolutions!
Statistics show 40 to 45% of Americans make one or more resolutions each year.
On average, resolutions are kept:
- past the first week: 75%
- past 2 weeks: 71%
- after one month: 64%
- after 6 months: 46%
Whatever your New Years resolution, it probably involves change of some sort. Are you typically successful with your resolutions? Or do you not achieve them for fear of failure? &, if you don’t make resolutions, why not?
