Blogguest, Dianne Duvall & Giveaway!

DarknessDawns Blogguest, Dianne Duvall & Giveaway!

Setting: North Carolina, present

Subgenre: Paranormal Romance

Hero: Roland Warbrook, a sexy, reclusive immortal betrayed once too often who holds nothing back while defending humans, yet trusts no one . . . until he meets Sarah.

Heroine: Dr. Sarah Bingham, a woman who enjoys the quiet life and longs for peaceful, stress-free days . . . until she stumbles upon Roland being tortured, rescues him and becomes a target for a vicious vampire army.

One sentence summary: Sarah Bingham’s ordinary world is turned upside down when she unexpectedly finds herself thrust into a war that erupts between vampires and immortals, then loses her heart to the dark, enigmatic warrior who offers her his protection.

Scene you like most and would never cut: That’s a tough one. I love the interaction between Sarah and Roland and would probably balk at any scenes they share being cut. However, the top three would be: 1) When Sarah awakens on Roland’s sofa, knowing he isn’t human and may very well be like the ruthless vampires who just attacked them, but can’t hold onto her fear because of the tenderness with which he heals her wounds. 2) The scene that begins with Roland lounging on the steps leading up to the whirlpool tub, watching Sarah blow-dry her hair and marveling over the warmth she has brought into his formerly barren existence. 3) The climax of the novel. For obvious reasons I can’t tell you what happens, but Roland and Sarah both demonstrate such love, heroism and a willingness to sacrifice anything for each other that I just can’t resist it.

Thing your heroine would never be caught dead doing/saying: “Every man for himself!” or “I’m really not into weapons.” Blogguest, Dianne Duvall & Giveaway!

What celebrity is your hero like: Hugh Jackman. He’s tall, dark and handsome and, from what I’ve heard, an all-around nice guy. Roland is the same, but Sarah may very well be the first to see it since others only see his oft-described as antisocial, irascible exterior.

What celebrity is your heroine like: Perhaps Milla Jovavitch. Sarah possesses the same intriguing combination of strength and vulnerability that Jovavitch often brings to her characters (namely Alice in Resident Evil).

What is your heroine’s occupation, or if unemployed, what should she be doing: Professor of Music Theory at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill

What is your hero’s occupation, or if unemployed, what should he be doing: Immortal Guardian and vampire hunter

What do you think readers will like best about this book: Hopefully the new approach it takes to the vampire romance genre, as well as the friendship and affection — sometimes playful, sometimes passionate — that infuses the love that rapidly catches Roland and Sarah off-guard.

What’s next: The second book in the Immortal Guardians series, which will feature Marcus and Ami from Darkness Dawns. It has tentatively been scheduled for release in December 2011.

The paranormal romance genre has really blossomed and expanded in recent years. It now encompasses a wide variety of paranormal beings: vampires, immortals, were-animals, ghosts, angels, demons, valkyries, faeries and more. What do you find most appealing about these beings? Is it the immortality? The strength? The power? The extraordinary abilities some possess?
