KISS ME IF YOU CAN by Carly Phillips
Setting: NYC
Subgenre: Contemporary
Hero: Sam Cooper “Coop”
Heroine: Lexie Davis
One sentence summary: What do you get when you bring together one free spirited traveler, a settled city dweller, an off the wall grandmother and her cast of friends and secrets …. A story of a woman finding out what’s most important in life, a man who learns to let go, and a comedic trio of elderly folks trying to both hide and recapture their youth. Fun for everyone, I hope!
Scene you like most and would never cut: The scene at the jewelers where “Lucy” and “Ethel” tie up “Ricky” in an attempt to get him to return “Lucy’s” wedding ring, “Ethel’s” bracelet, and they inflict their form of “torture” on their former partner.
Thing your heroine would never be caught dead doing/saying: “I want a house, a family, a white picket fence, 2.3 kids and a dog!”
What celebrity is your hero like: Nathan Fillion from ABC’s Castle (and Joey from OLTL for those who remember him like me!) … but Coop’s more like him as Castle.
What celebrity is your heroine like: Stana Katic also on Castle as Kate Beckett - note as she appeared in season one! Add a touch of Lisa Loeb and her funky glasses and you have Lexie!
What is your heroine’s occupation, or if unemployed, what should she be doing: web designer - although anything she could do on the road would suit her fine!
What is your heroe’s occupation, or if unemployed, what should he be doing: he’s a crime beat reporter for a NYC newspaper though he should pursue his dream of crime writing full time!
What do you think readers will like best about this book: It’s light, it’s fun, it’s breezy and yet I hope the characters and their imperfections and needs draw readers in deeper.
The person that readers want you to write about but you haven’t yet: There’s always a leftover character in a series … and it makes me sad but sometimes it’s time to move on.
What’s next: I’m very excited about next year’s schedule (2011) - beginning with leading a Harlequin MORE THAN WORDS Anthology in May 2011 and then the beginning of a brand new series for Berkley. The first book (and series name) is tentatively (but probably)- SERENDIPITY, named after the fictional, upstate NY town where the stories are set. The first book will be released in October 2011 and feature the town, its landmark Harrington Mansion, the estranged Barron brothers, and a vibrant cast of characters from both sides of the tracks. The tone of the stories will be deeper, more like my earlier works, CROSS MY HEART and SEALED WITH A KISS, and the hero and heroine of the first story share an unfulfilled attraction from the past. He’s a bad boy returning to his hometown to make up for past mistakes. I’m so excited for this new series!
I love to hear from readers – what do YOU love in a contemporary romance? Light stories? More serious stories with more depth? Sensual? One where the hero and heroine share a past? First meet? What’s your taste in modern day contemporary romance? 1 random poster will be chosen to win a $25 Borders Gift Card!

I love all kinds from the fun and flirty stories to the ones dealing with serious and difficult issues facing women today.
August 1st, 2010 on 2:11 am
love them my favories and i like all kinds
i like plin jane theme and best friends
congrats on the book and great reivews
July 31st, 2010 on 4:04 pm
I do enjoy all those you listed. I do like a little HEAT in my contemporary stories.
July 31st, 2010 on 9:28 am
If I’m reading a straight-up contemporary romance, I like a book that can blend the two. I love the funny scenarios that the characters can find themselves in, but I want a bit of angst with my froth. I want there to be a real issue that is keeping them apart and I want them to actually deal with that issue, but I love it if there is a pratfall or two before they get to the happy ending.
July 30th, 2010 on 10:00 pm
Nice to see you here, Carly! I’m not picky, I like them all! Thanks for the chance to enter!
July 30th, 2010 on 9:06 pm
Humor is essential. I’m normally a historical kind of girl, but I love the Stephanie Plum series because of the humor. If the story makes me “escape” my dull life, it’s worth it. I am NOT into serious stories with more depth - I have enough drama in my own life. And I actually get turned off if a book is too sensual. Books seem to be too sexed up these days. One love scene is enough for me - it’s sufficient to just know that they are doing it without all descriptions. I always skip those parts and if there are too many, I lose interest and will stop reading the book (and then donate it to the library instead of keep it).
July 30th, 2010 on 11:18 am
I love contemporary romances with humor, especially when the hero is a smarty-pants and the heroine is prim and proper. At the beginning, his smarty-pants ways may bother her but at the end she loves them.
July 30th, 2010 on 3:45 am
I always enjoy stories of people with a shared past, because the backstory always adds an added depth to the storyline, whether it’s of reunited lovers or friends or even of unrequited love. Regardless of the story device used I just love emotional reads with angst and drama.
July 29th, 2010 on 10:47 pm
I’m looking forward to reading Kiss Me If You Can.
I look for a fun, light story in a contemporary, nothing dark or too serious. I enjoy the second chance stories, where the couple meets again after a long period of time, and may have some differences to work out.
July 29th, 2010 on 7:58 pm
I like a variety of different styles in romance. I would like to see another side of relationships in a story where the couple are in love but they come to a realization that they cannot be together. They will always love each other but decide to take different paths.
I enjoy all sorts of romance novels when there is chemistry between the main characters.
I look forward to reading your new release!
July 29th, 2010 on 1:47 pm
I love most contemporaries. Depending on my mood, I’ll go with light & fluffy or more serious. Looking forward to reading this one! Thanks!
July 29th, 2010 on 10:03 am
Hi Carly. Congratulations on your new book. Sounds fabulous. I like both light hearted and serious contemporaries. As long as the romance is good, I am happy.
July 29th, 2010 on 8:10 am
i think i like the shared past stories best, because then teh characters already know things about each other and it makes the falling in love much more believeable.
July 29th, 2010 on 2:50 am
I’ve read all different kinds. Serious, sensual, erotic, funny, light, even a mystery or two(not my fave at all).
Reunion, first meet, secret baby, cowboy-city girl(or reverse), boy/girl next door, friends-to-lovers, arranged marriage, etc.
They are all good if they have a good author.
July 29th, 2010 on 12:53 am
When I’m reading contemporary romance, I want something light and fluffy but with some realism in it. And dear god, don’t let them fall into bed within the first fifteen pages. : )
July 29th, 2010 on 12:12 am
It usually depends on what kind of mood I’m in sometimes I want a really complex story line and sometimes I just want one that will make me laugh out loud. I don’t care if the hero and heroine are just meeting or have known each other for years.
July 28th, 2010 on 11:34 pm
As long as there’s sexy chemistry with a lot of funny banter, some sultry kisses, and a plot I’m happy. But I have noticed that when it comes to contemporary romances, I like mine on the lighter side with lots of humor and wit. I like to leave the darker and edgier stuff to read in my paranormals
July 28th, 2010 on 11:00 pm
I like all kids of romance, I like first time meeting or if they had a past, but the stories have to be upbeat, and not so sappy. I love a good love story with a happy ending.
July 28th, 2010 on 10:41 pm
I love stories where the hero and heroine already know each other and are childhood friend but an event distances them until they grow up and are brought together again but this time sparks fly
July 28th, 2010 on 10:40 pm
Carly,
Nathan Fillion from ABC’s Castle is a new heartthrob of mine. I like all contemporary romance? Light stories? More serious stories with more depth? Sensual? One where the hero and heroine share a past? First meet? modern day contemporary romance? Can’t pick a favorite. I love your books no matter the genre.
July 28th, 2010 on 10:01 pm
I actualy like them all. light, serious, sensual, share a past or first meet. As for my taste in modern romances I also like suspense.

July 28th, 2010 on 9:04 pm
I’m a voracious reader, at least a book a day on average. I like all kinds of cont.romances. I enjoy your books and I am looking forward to reading KMIYC. I picked it up at Borders!
July 28th, 2010 on 8:57 pm
I like my contemporaries to be light, but not TOO light, if that makes any sense. I want some depth, but still usually not looking for a heavy story.
July 28th, 2010 on 8:55 pm
I like my contemps with some humor, nothing TOO serious. I an a fan of reunion storylines, too.
July 28th, 2010 on 8:41 pm
Had to say THANK YOU again for having me. It’s such a treat to be with Borders True Romance, and Sue! Thanks for all your contemporary thoughts. I think it all comes down to variety and a fulfilling story!
July 28th, 2010 on 8:39 pm
I love contemporaries with humor, so I guess light stories. Stranger love is funner than past loves IMO
July 28th, 2010 on 8:13 pm
I love all kinds of contemporary romances and especially love a “friends to lovers” theme.
Congrats on the new release, Carly!
July 28th, 2010 on 8:17 pm
P.S. I’m sooo with you on Nathan Fillion!
July 28th, 2010 on 8:38 pm
I am MORTIFIED to admit I didn’t love him on OLTL. It wasn’t until he matured that I found him sexy. Maybe I like more mature men?
July 28th, 2010 on 8:09 pm
I love them sensual, of course
And I’m not big on an aready-there-past. I like to be there for all the action, so to speak!
July 28th, 2010 on 7:44 pm
Hi Carly. Congrats on your new release. I like a light romance but; it also depends on the story. Some authors can make a heavy one just as good. I enjoy all differant kinds of stories.
July 28th, 2010 on 6:57 pm
I think I like light best. I love to watch romantic comedies, so this would probably be in that vein although I have enjoyed some of Anne Stuart’s romantic suspense as well.
July 28th, 2010 on 6:56 pm
I normally buy UF, PNR, and SF&F but i do love romantic suspsense and some straight comtemps. Love the friends to lovers line. It just depends on the story whether I’ll read it.
July 28th, 2010 on 6:44 pm
I am not picky about contemporary romances. I love all that you have mentioned.
Am looking forward to your new Berkley series!
July 28th, 2010 on 6:39 pm
Hi Carly! Congratulations on your new release “Kiss Me If You Can”. I can’t wait to read it. Your book “The Bachelor” was my first romance book and have been hooked ever since.
I love all kinds of contemporary romances. I like it when the hero and heroine share a past, but also like to read about when they first meet. I also like books that are part of a series, that is why I can’t to read your upcoming series featuring the estranged Barron brothers.
July 28th, 2010 on 5:22 pm
Hi Carly! I normally pick up books with PNR, UF, or Fantasy on the spines. However, recently I’ve been trying to cleanse the proverbial palate so I borrowed a couple of contemporaries and found that I actually liked them. I think they’re refreshing from all the terror, torture and otherworldly aspects of my other beloved genres. I could RELATE to contemporaries! As for preferences, I love first discoveries, chance meetings of strangers in situations that are serious but laced with fun and lightness when appropriate. And the HEA is the topping!
July 28th, 2010 on 5:08 pm
I’m partial to “just met” heroes and heroines just because I feel like they have less connected baggage to get over to fall in love all over again. Plus, I like feeling like everyone is a fresh face as I’m reading about these new characters. However, I love contemporary romances and will read just about anything and everything!
July 28th, 2010 on 4:55 pm
Great question, Carly! And great answers, everyone… you’re giving us fabulous insight into readers’ minds. Carly and I were on a panel recently at RomCon, and we both feel strongly about listening to reader feedback so we can write stories that you’ll love.
July 28th, 2010 on 5:46 pm
So true! Thanks, Susan! And thanks everyone who’s commented so far. We DO take what readers prefer into consideration! After all, you’re the ones we are writing for!!!!
July 28th, 2010 on 4:45 pm
I’ve never read a Carly Phillips book, but this looks like one I would like to try.
I like all kinds of contempory romances. Light hearted, small town continuities, big city flash and many many more. The key word is contemporary. They are my favorite.
July 28th, 2010 on 4:35 pm
I like a lot of different stories, but no heavy stories, and realistic economic brackets please.
July 28th, 2010 on 3:33 pm
I love all types of contemporary romances but I think one of my favorites is when the hero and heroine have a past with one another.
July 28th, 2010 on 3:10 pm
I like reading all different types. Just depends on my mood. Looking forward to reading the new book.
July 28th, 2010 on 2:58 pm
Oh I love Nathan in Castle. Contemporaries are usually lighter fare but I am open to anything. Sometimes you just want to laugh!
July 28th, 2010 on 2:54 pm
Hi, Carly,
I seem to prefer stories with older couples with an
unresolved past who meet again. Or there might be
a secret baby in the picture. Or it could be an older
couple meeting after a first marriage ends. I like to read about younger couples, but I as an older reader,
like to read about someone nearer my age too!
Pat Cochran
July 28th, 2010 on 2:28 pm
I like the books I read to be light-hearted. I want to laugh a little. It is a great way to escape. I don’t want anything to bring me down.
July 28th, 2010 on 2:21 pm
Congrats on the new release. Can’t wait to read it! I like contemporary romance with connecting story lines. Especially trilogies, whether it be light or serious.
July 28th, 2010 on 2:12 pm
When it comes to contemps, I like a little more depth. I like humor but it has to be balanced. Naked Edge by Pamela Clare although a rom-suspense is a great book and Rachel Gibson’s hockey series is fab.
July 28th, 2010 on 1:45 pm
Hi! I’m waiting for my copy of “Kiss Me If You Can” to arrive in the mail.
For contemps, I usually like lighter stories although they may contain darker parts. Too much angst would defeat the purpose of reading romances for me. As for the tropes, I’m open to any of them as long as they are well-written and the characters are interesting. Humor is a bit part of modern day contemps for me. And as you are one of my favorite writers, thanks for the stories and keep up the good work!
July 28th, 2010 on 1:39 pm
I enjoy reading the light contemporaries. I like stories where they have a past and meet again and get together.
July 28th, 2010 on 1:29 pm
I enjoy humor and fast-paced stories. Oh, and I like the sweetness that can be found in them, too!
July 28th, 2010 on 1:25 pm
I really like all situations. Depending on what I am in the mood for. But as long as the characters are likable I am pretty much happy.
July 28th, 2010 on 1:19 pm
I love all kinds of romance. Lighthearted, serious, romantic suspense. paranormal romance. etc.
July 28th, 2010 on 1:10 pm
I’m looking forward to reading this, I have really enjoyed her previous books and this one sounds really good as well!!!
July 28th, 2010 on 1:01 pm
love all of Carly’s books……..
July 28th, 2010 on 12:45 pm
In contemporary, I tend to prefer the light, sexy stories more because they take me away from real life while still being situated in real life. If I want a more serious, intense story I turn to historicals because they still provide an escape.
July 28th, 2010 on 12:42 pm
I tend to like first meetings and light stories. Oh, I also like the ones where the characters share a past, like high school sweethearts. SO cute!
July 28th, 2010 on 12:35 pm
Hi Carly, I go back and forth with romances. On occasion the fun, zany romances are just what I need and on others, I really love to dive deep into characters and their emotional journeys.
Your book is intriguing… especially since you reference the TV drama Castle. I love that show!
July 28th, 2010 on 12:24 pm
I like a mix of things…some tension, some humor, and of course, the HEA. I like what you write, Carly! Thanks for visiting today.
July 28th, 2010 on 12:17 pm
Hmmm, Im not really sure. Probably the whole package. I am a big romance fan, I love seeing people falling in love, or well, reading about it. The first meeting is definitely interesting though.
P.S I read Kiss Me If You Can! Loved it! I have yet to review it but I definitely plan to!!
Thanks a million!
Leilani
July 28th, 2010 on 12:08 pm
I like reading about the first meeting, and the tension that develops before they finally get together. I don’t like them too ‘cute’ but a little light-hearted bantering is good so that it doesn’t get eye-roll-inducingly dramatic.
July 28th, 2010 on 11:58 am
Congratulations on the new release. I haven’t read one of your books yet, so I’ll have to try one.
I enjoy contemporaries where the hero and heroine shared a past. Humor can also be good if it’s not overdone. Current must-read authors are Julie James, Nora Roberts and Susan Elizabeth Phillips. Lisa Kleypas has made a smooth transition from the historical genre to contemporary.
July 28th, 2010 on 11:34 am
I love contemporary romances that are light, upbeat and just plain fun. Humor is really important for I want to forget the days troubles and relax, smile and fall a bit in love. I prefer the couple that meets each other for the first time. Following the relationship from the beginning is something I enjoy more then those flashes of looking back.
July 28th, 2010 on 11:17 am
Humor! I read contempory when I want something light and fun. Got your book yesterday… can’t wait to read it!
July 28th, 2010 on 11:16 am
For contemporaries some of my favorite themes are the friends to lovers themes and also fairy tale themes. Depending on my mood I like dark sometimes and light other times.
July 28th, 2010 on 11:10 am
I’m not picky. I liked shared pasts and first meets, fluff and substance. I just don’t like weepers, even with a happy ending. I like a little humor (or a lot). I also like eccentric families in the humorous books. Sound familiar?
July 28th, 2010 on 10:54 am
Hi Carly,
My favorite genres are romantic suspense and contemporary romance. For contemporaries, I do enjoy it when the main characters have a past together. I think reunited stories have an extra element, since there is history between the hero/heroine. I like to figure out why they separated and what brings them back together. It’s funny that you mention your upcoming series (in 2011) being closer to Ty & Hunter’s books. Those two books are actually my favorite of all your novels. On the other hand, I don’t only read books with the reunited theme :-), I do enjoy the contemporaries with a witty dialogue and a little humor, as well. Your new book sounds like a fun romp, I look forward to reading it.
July 28th, 2010 on 10:51 am
I love something that makes me smile and occasionally laugh out loud. The best are the ones that are so engaging I lose track of everything else - he coffee gets cold, the weeds grow tall, and the sun moves across the summer sky.
Comedy, suspense, paranormal…. As long as the story is compelling, I’m happy.
July 28th, 2010 on 10:49 am
I love them both the light stories and the more series one. It all depends on the mood I am in as to what I want to read! Also love the stories where the hero and heroine share some kind of a past. I am reading one of those right now!
July 28th, 2010 on 10:42 am
Hi Carly,
I mostly enjoy light stories with a good dose of humor are my favorites.
My first love was historical but I love a good well written contemporary now.
If I want serious I will watch the news.
July 28th, 2010 on 10:32 am
My favorite books are the ones that are deep in scope, have many interesting characters with flaws, lots of humor and wit, twists to the plot, and a great romantic ending. I absolutely loved your series The Bachelor, The Heartbreaker, and The Playboy.
True romance books with a lot of heart are impossible for me to pass up! I can’t wait to read your new book Carly! It definitely sounds like a winner!
July 28th, 2010 on 10:29 am
I love contemporaries and historicals equally well. The contemporaries that I enjoy most are humorous, heartwarming, and realistic. Some of my favorite authors are Kristan Higgins, Jennifer Crusie, Julie James, Lori Wilde, and YOU!
July 28th, 2010 on 9:58 am
Hi, Carly! After losing yourself in historicals for a while, it’s good to find yourself again in contemporaries : ) Romance reads offer the hope that true love is attainable, and “Happily Ever After” can be ours. They also provide an escape from everyday life. Whether it’s “heart with heat” or “heat with heart”, we can view the romantic entanglements and sensual experiences of the characters and imagine ourselves in their place. Some contemporary romances go much further. They present a more realistic look at characters with physical and emotional problems, financial difficulties, abuse situations, unplanned pregnancies and so much more. Sometimes, I want to read about life scenarios which are similar to my own. Other times, I want to be completely involved by characters and life stories far outside my everyday world. No matter what I’m reading, I look for well-developed, involving characters and a detailed, interesting story line. You can find all of these things by reading romance novels. Whether you search for the familiar or the exotic, chaste love or deep sensuality, or humorous escapism, you will find it all in contemporary romance.
I love your “Lucky Series”! The books are on my “keeper shelf” to be reread : )
July 28th, 2010 on 9:56 am
Looking forward to this and to the next series Carly! For contemporary romance, you are one of my favorite authors, alongside Jennifer Crusie. I like deep, serious stuff as much as the next person, but I also like lighter fare, and I appreciate some humor thrown in the mix. I’m a big fan of series featuring siblings, like your Lucky, Chandler Brothers (my introduction to you) and Hot Zone series.
July 28th, 2010 on 9:50 am
I love contemporary romances for the witty humor. I enjoy how it seems as if we all can find our happily ever after without all the work of keeping it that way for years to come. My favorite books are series that span generations so you can see how a couple is doing 20, 30 or even 40 years after their story is set. It gives you so much more than just “they got married, had twelve kids and lived the rests of their lives in pure bliss.”
Love your stories Carly, I own them all and reread them often.
July 28th, 2010 on 9:46 am
I like light, funny contemporary romances. Second chance at love stories are great too.
July 28th, 2010 on 9:41 am
Since I’m a sucker for stories that go from light to dark and second chance at love to first meetings I could say I love them all. But the thing the stories I like have in common is that they deal with emotions and have well developed characters that we get to see all of. All of the good and the bad. I will read any genre that deals with these elements.
July 28th, 2010 on 9:37 am
I love all types of contemporary romance but am especially fond of the ones were the couple start out not getting along.
July 28th, 2010 on 9:33 am
I like light contemporaries where h/h share a past, but not as a couple. Serious is ok, but some humor or playfulness is always appreciated.
July 28th, 2010 on 9:26 am
I look for a connection of some kind between the hero/heroine. Past, current situation. I look for strong characters who can stand on their own but are much better as couple. Second requirement HUMOR. I like to laugh.
July 28th, 2010 on 9:22 am
I love it all! My favorite though is when couples first meet, I don’t like the ones with a past as much because if they couldn’t make it work before how can they now?
July 28th, 2010 on 9:18 am
I rarely read contemporary romance but when I do I prefer light stories.
July 28th, 2010 on 9:16 am
I enjoy all kinds of contemporary - light-hearted or serious. It all just depends on what kind of mood I’m in that day. But majority of the time, I probably lean more towards light-hearted in my contemporaries only because my historicals tend to be more drama filled.
July 28th, 2010 on 9:03 am
I love to LAUGH when I read! It doesn’t matter if the couple have a past together or not . . . if the chemistry is there - it works! Sometime silly is OK if it is not “over the top” unbelievable, but I enjoy light, witty, “snarky” with a hit of sexy in the conversations.
July 28th, 2010 on 8:53 am
Hi Carly. Congrats on your new release. I like both light hearted and serious contemporary romance. I am happy with stories where the couples have a past or when they first meet as long as the romance is good.
July 28th, 2010 on 8:52 am
I love when characters share a past and reconnect at a later time in their lives. When they know each other deep down inside but have to relearn the new person they are. Break down the facades and barriers and get down to the love they have.
July 28th, 2010 on 8:27 am
I look for real characters. Heros and Heroines that could by my next door neighbor.
July 28th, 2010 on 8:10 am
I think what I loved about contemporary romance is the happy ever after that the couples are able to gain that sometimes in real life don’t work out that way. I enjoy deep sensual books but enjoy the light and fluffy ones as well. I enjoy the modern day contemporary romance that had leads that are not mean or over the top Alpha that many of the old contemporary of yesteryears with leads that you want to smack in real life if you ever meant them!
July 28th, 2010 on 8:09 am
It all depends on my mood. Some days I’ll want to laugh and other days I want to ball my eyes outs. Modern day contemporaries are my favorite genre. I like when the characters already share a past, whether it be good or bad. But I love the hard to get angle from the hero’s POV. I’m looking forward to reading “Kiss me if you can” and congrats on it’s release.

I love Contemporary Romance that is belivable, I Like all kinds I don’t mind i fthey have a past, I love a great first meet I like it when the hero/heroine have a bit of love/hate when they meet and they work through that as you go through the book. All in all if the book is written well and keeps me intrested then anything goes.

I love stories where the hero and heroine share a past. They always seem so much sweeter to me for some reason!

I like it all in contemporary. I switch it up frequently between the heavier stories and the lighter fare. It all depends on my mood. I select books based on the author and the summary on the back cover. My TBR pile is overflowing, so I have lots to choose from!!

Congrats on your release and getting the go ahead for the next series. Like some humor and mystery/suspense in my books.

For contemporary romance, I really prefer the more light hearted stories. The ones that have me chuckling to myself or laughing out loud. Now granted there are always exceptions but if a book can get me to laugh (or cry, yell, or moan) then it is a keeper, no matter what genre.

I enjoy books that are in depth. Books that give substance, something to grab on to. I really like the books that offer trilogies or more that link stories together. Sensual is a must! LOL Sharing a past or just meeting is not incredibly important. It is how it is put together to the reader that is important. It can work both ways.

I don’t mind light-hearted, I just don’t like when some stories become too silly to believe. Sexy, fun, witty are all things I look for. Congrats on your new book!

I love contemporary romances - light and romantic, hot and steamy, suspenseful - you name it I like it!
Carly - looking forward to reading this one. My copy should arrive via snail mail any day now. Will probably wait and read it in the airport when I go to visit my daughter and family in a couple of weeks.

Another great prize.
Love to see contemp books featured! Carly, your books are always great and I look forward to this series.
All of the above. Love the funny, light, hot and stories with real depth; love the tortured hero who is made whole by the love of a good woman; also love the h or h returning back home, bad boy storyline or neighbor next door. Variety is nice. LOL.

I love to read the light-hearted contemporaries. Sometimes you just need a good read that brings a smile on your face and romance to your heart!

I’m a contemporary lover too! I gravitate light, but definitely like an angstier story now and again!

I love love love contemporary romances - I like them light and fluffy, deep, dark and angsty, and most things in between. I do like the reunited lovers/second chance at love storylines as well as the friends to lovers and yep, I like ‘em fairly sensual too (although the love scenes should show the growth in the relationship rather than just being there for titillation). Best for your new release.

I like both light and serious. I really like when they had a past and rediscover each other.

Congrats on the new release, Carly. I like both light and serious contemporaries. Sometimes I’m in the mood for something heavier and more drama. I prefer stories where the hero and heroine don’t have a past.

I love light-hearted contemporaries. I read enough of the serious stuff in other romance genres (i.e. romantic suspense, paranormal romance).

I too lean toward light and funny, with some sensuality, but as long as the h/h story is compelling, it could be any type. I’d like to see more set in diverse areas of the US, too. Gotta say, I’d like to see the heroines who have brains and maybe are into more than shopping, shoes, and getting the guy. NYC/Sex and The City vibe has also grown a little tiresome, and never was one I could relate to, anyway.
