One thing that happened to me on Valentines — my date, at the time, & I were going to a concert & the artist was a punk, heavy metal sort, so we thought of, kind of, dressing the part . . . my date brought me black roses, & seriously I thought that was so special because he actually put some thought into the evening & went to the trouble to have them painted black!
Actually, I was so impressed with that, & many other things, that I married him!
Happy Romance!

One of the nicest things my husband did for Valentine’s day was to plant me a large bed of roses. Nine rose bushes that to this day are still blooming. He knows I would rather have them live forever than just for a short week.

We don’t really do anything special for V Day. Staying home with family.

Black Roses!!! I love the thought; a man who has a different way of thinking! I want to find a black rose to plant in my yard. Is that weird?
Happy Valentine’s Day To You, Sue! For making my days lively, my computer happy and my bookshelf fuller!

My best Valentines Day was the birth of my first daughter—1966.

Yes, I can see how that would be the best — and all the future Valentines too

I used to work with a very sweet, funny, younger guy with whom I had a great friendship. He also had a crush on me, but he was way too young for me to date. Neither one of us had sweethearts. One Valentine’s Day, he was waiting for me when I got off from work. He brought me the four “CEES” (coffee, chocolate, cheese, and cookies), which he knew I loved. He gave me a very sweet card which said: “I like you more than you like me. That’s OK. My feelings are unconditional.” We kissed. Our one and only kiss. I looked up into those very intense baby blues, and repeated the word “baby” in my head! That was a close call! We haven’t worked together in quite a while. He married and started a family. We’re still friends, and his eyes are still blue : )

My husband bought me ear rings one time and had them attached to a white rose and placed inside a balloon! Since he never buys me gifts I was quite thrilled! Trust me when i say this was a one time thing.

I remember the year, early in our relationship, when he had lavender roses delivered to me at work. I had never received flowers before (my ex-husband was a Scrooge about those kinds of gifts because they “don’t last”) and to get them in such a public way was mind-blowing.
I still feel really lucky to be with him, 30 years later.

I misspoke–they were SILVER roses (he corrected me when I told him about the post). But I remember the color best and they were more lavender than gray.

Silver — very nice — I never knew roses came in so many colors! I love them no matter what color
Don’t you?

I’ve been with my hubby for 7 years but we only celebrated our first V Day together. He hates “manufactured” holidays, but we’d only been together a couple months when I convinced him to celebrate V Day with me. We were living in Prague, and since he’s British I thought I’d buy him a nice teapot and some loose-leaf tea (neither of us had much money, so tea seemed like an extravagant gift). I bought the tea but couldn’t find any non-girlie tea pots.
I showed up at our date with only a couple bags of loose-leaf tea, which he couldn’t use because he didn’t have a pot. He gave me a beautiful hardcover book of black and white photos of Prague, because it was where we fell in love.
He was thrilled with my crappy gift - not because it’s the thought that counts but because he took it as an excuse never to celebrate V Day again.
