One sentence summary: Im sultry Miami, a chance meeting between a human and a werewolf ignites a chemistry that sizzles as the hunt for a killer begins…

Scene you like most and would never cut: The opening chapter of Red Wolf. I loved writing the action and interaction of a human cop and a female werewolf in human form running through a park, at night, chasing a bad guy. Then realizing they had accidentally imprinted, and like it or not, would eventually be driven to mate. Ha-za! This scene was absolutely thrilling to be a part of, and kicked off the mood and direction and non-stop action of the book and its sequel, due out in March.

What celebrity is your hero like: Hugh Jackman, a bit younger, and without the Wolverine claws… yet. (Wink)

What celebrity is your heroine like: Amy Adams, gone over to the dark side.

What is your heroes occupation: cop about to be promoted to detective. Make that sexy cop.

What is your heroine’s occupation: Ex attorney, turned fortune-teller, since her ancient Lycan genetics give her Sight.

What do you think readers will like best about this book: The non-stop action that brings Adam Scott and Tory McKidd together constantly, and the blistering heat of their meetings, even as danger lurks and they search for her brother’s killer.

The person that readers want you to write about but you haven’t: Ah, well, I get a lot of fan mail from last year’s frivolously light paranormal from Dorchester, Barbie and the Beast, asking for Barbie’s best pal Angie’s story. I left Angie’s future up in the air as to who (and what) Walter, the male she hooks up with, was (species). Everybody wants to know about Angie and Walter. Readers send me their ideas, and ask if they’re right. Quite a few people who kindly took the time to write to me want to know how Barbie fares with her werewolf, Darin, and the antics they will all get into - in their quite possibly rocky, quirky future. But mum’s the word, for now. A writer has to have some secrets, right?

What’s next: More yummy dark fare. The Wolf Moons series concludes in March with Nocturne’s Wolf Trap. Both Red Wolf and Wolf Trap include bonus material in the form of two novellas, or Bites. This means that the entire series is together in print, in two books. I’m absolutely thrilled about this because folks who love to hold paperbacks, and e-book folks who can download onto their computers or read Sony readers, can find my books and Bites in any form they prefer. This is just so great! A format for everyone!
Plus - I’ve just been offered another contract for four more Nocturne stories - and have already started writing the first one - an international vampire tale that hopefully will knock your socks off in 2011. I’ll be writing for the rest of this year to get those 4 books finished and on their way to readers who love the paranormal as much as I do. I will, of course, be enjoying every minute of it - and look forward to meeting my new characters.Trueromance lindaSandstrom612 Guest Blogger, Linda Thomas Sundstrom & GIVEAWAY!

So - there you have it - my answers to the questions posed, in a nutshell. But I do have to add that for me, writing and reading dark paranormal fare is like eating very dark chocolate. And it’s equally as addicting. Also, I think it’s a good thing that Borders stores have cafés in them, so that two indulgences can be satisfied at once. Can’t beat that, right? “It was a dark and stormy night… with truffles…”

Now that you know about me, how about you? Is a love for the paranormal in your blood? Can you wait for the next dark, sexy tale? Do werewolves do it for you? Or does cool vampire flesh feel good against your skin? Yes, I know, I know… not the Team Edward or Team Jacob thing, but in general. You. The real you… and what you crave.
Tell us this - and we’ll give away a book to one of you who shares.

Thanks for Listening…
xo

I like them both, but I do seem to pick more wolf stories. Your cover is great, I can’t wait to read this one.

  • Kay Elizabeth, The Cuckleburr Times

I’ve always preferred werewolves over vampires. I’m over 40 and grew up watching vampires bedecked in tuxedos and capes like Christopher Lee. They were just too darn sophisticated for my tastes. Werewolves were so much more feral, unpredictable and exciting!

Maybe if vampires had remained loyal to the Nosferatu image I’d have been in their camp but too late now. They’ve got too pretty. :)

Congrats on Red Wolf, Linda! I wish you huge success with this and the series. It sounds fab. :)

Promise me Hugh Jackman if it’s a movie. Or just promise me Hugh Jackman LOL. ;)

  • Freda Mans

I love both Vampires and Werewolves, though I would choose the feral beast as a lover.
There is a show that gives us both Vampires and Werewolves living in unity among ghosts. It is a British show called Being Human. You should check it out if this is the nature you are into.

    • Linda Thomas-Sundstrom

Yes! I like that show. Sort of goofy, and then the poor Were will have a painful morph to his Werewolf ahape…. OUCH! I also like the ghost girl with a penchant for making cups of tea thatshe can’t drink.

Stay tuned for this show. Hopefully it will be back on this year - though no one can guess about TV anymore, I supose. It’s on the BBCA channel.

    Hi Linda,

The book covers look spectacular! Congrats! I like both vampires and werewolves. And I want to hear more about Angie too. =)

    • Linda Thomas-Sundstrom

Ah, about Angie…. Well, I’d sure love to tell that tale. Angie, as those of you might know from reading my “Barbie and the Beast” (Dorchester, 2009) book, is a true handful. Plenty of room for stories there, let me tell you.

We last find Angie in medieval handcuffs and a little black dress, attached to the wall of a crypt that’s decorated in high Victorian speandor, awaiting her… um…. man? Walter. And digging every minute of it.
P.S. There are Oreos involved. HA!

I prefer shapeshifters myself. Actually like big cats more that wolves, but either are usually good reads. I like reading about some vamps but it’s usually hard to imagine myself into the story because I would not want to be a vamp. Don’t want to lose the sun and have to be on a very, very limited diet.

    • Linda Thomas-Sundstrom

Beth - yep, I do have to wonder about a world without cookies. You know that saying - that you are what you eat? Well, I am a cookie. Home-made and right out of the oven.
But I suppose for vampires there is… Blood pudding? English fare for years and years. Ah - what the heck do you think that is?

thanks linda for your response earlier today. i went out to Border’s and bought Red Wolf…omgosh! i cant wait to start reading. :) my 2 little babies are asleep and now its time to enjoy and read. thanks for the oppt. to win your book and a great interview!

  • Barbara Elness

I love paranormal stories - vampires, werewolves, demons, fairies, pixies, angels - it doesn’t matter, as long as there’s some great action, a little romance, it all makes a great story.

  • Gigi

I love the Vampire’s a bit more than werewolves.
I always imagine Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise in Interview with a Vampire.
I am a fan of Vampire stories they are just so sexy.

    • Linda Thomas-Sundstrom

Hi Gigi. I wonder who your idea of a perfectly sexy movie vampire would be, other than Cruise and Pitt?

Mine would be… um… well, I’ll have to htink some more on that one. But I’m (well) over 30, so my choice of vamps to swoon over is definitely not EDWARD. I’m afraid I’d need more mature, refined, meatier fare to dig my teeth into.
      Who would that be?

  • Lisa G.

Hi Linda! I really like my vamps but I think if all wereowolves look like Jacob I might switch sides. Lol

    • Linda Thomas-Sundstrom

Hey yeah. I hear there are more werewolf movies about to go into production - over the simple fact of Jacob baring his chest, and all the swooning females in the audience. I hope they’re romantic shows, and not horror, blood, and guts - like the new WOLFMAN movie. Ugh. I want to be seduced, not torn to shreds. And I prefer to read and write about wolfmen who retain their wits, even under a full moon. Don’t you?

      Thanks for the post.

I just want to say that what I like the most about your work is the inventiveness. It’s not the same-old same-old wolves. I think this series is going to knock everybody’s socks off, and in the words of Shakira: AWOOOOOOOOOO!

  • P.J. Mellor

Hi, Linda! You’re my absolute favorite supernatural writer, of course, but I’m really enjoying Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse series, which include both vampt and weres, as well as assorted shap-shifters.

  • Barbara J. Hancock

I have to admit that for years I was solidly in the vampire camp, but I’ve since fallen in love with quite a few ‘wolves;) Congratulations on your current release! (But I have to admit I’m looking forward to that vampire series you mentioned:D)

  • Tia

I tend to go for werewolves and vampires. I think it’s because those are the stories that I’ve grown up with and I like the mystery that surrounds them.

  • Jeanne Dickson

Hey Linda! Congrats on all the books. To tell you the truth, I’m drawn to the mortals that love the vamps and werewolfs! That moment when they realize their life will never be normal again….

    • Linda Thomas-Sundstrom

Jeanne D - yes, that is the epitomy of the good paranormal tale, isn’t it? Mortal vs immortal, etc.

In RED WOLF, tnis month’s Nocturne, I had a good time creating a female genetic Were who is on the trail of her brother’s killer. It’s female Were meets male cop, and not the usual woman in jeopardy plot line.

I prefer strong female characters, able to fend for themselves… usually. Though in March’s Wolf Trap, the feisty heroine needs more help than she can rustle up for herself. Feistiness only goes so far when up against a nasty, rogue werewolf bite about to rock your world.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  • Virginia C

Hi, Linda! Congratulations on your fabulous Nocturne series. Those “hunka hunka” book covers are gorgeous! I have had a fascination with the paranormal since my abnormal childhood. I watched horror movies and read “spooky stories”. I had to sleep with a night light, and lots of times Mom had to sleep in my room! My grandmother and I watched “Dark Shadows” together after I got home from school : ) Gran and I were the only ones in the family who liked scary stuff! I would say that vampires still hold the title for most seductive spooks and spellbinders. To really understand the sensual allure of the vampire, watch Frank Langella as “Dracula”. The film was released in 1979, and Frank had first played the role on stage. Decades later, that climactic love scene (without nudity) is still one of the most erotic moments in movie history! Just so the weres’ feelings won’t be hurt…there’s some mighty fine furry fellas out there on the paranormal prowl : )

    • Linda Thomas-Sundstrom

Yes, Virginia. YAY. Sexy paranormal movies rock. And as a matter of fact, I just mentioned the Frank Langella version of Dracula last week in a blog, as being one of my fav scenes for the hotness factor. Shirt open the there… long hair whipping in the misty midnight breeze as he entered his femme’s room… that was paranormal movie bliss for sure.

And I also watched those movies early on - with a pillow in my lap in case I needed to cover my eyes!

Glad to meet another paranormal fan who remembers that movie.

I want Ray Garton to write me a werewolf romance novel. I keep begging, but he says no. Sigh.

Your books look like a good time, Linda! I’ll be sure to add you to be my TBR. *g*

  • Raz Steel

I’m usually all for vampires. They have a longer life, er, death expectancy. I haven’t read much werewolf lit, but I’m looking forward to Red Wolf. The premise sounds interesting, and anything paranormal holds an appeal.

  • readinrobin

In the last few years I’ve gotten very into all the Vampire stuff, but my favorite paranormal still involves witches, which don’t seem as popular. I’ve only read a few werewolf related and am just getting into those.

    • Linda Thomas-Sundstrom

Ah, readinrobin, I envy you all the wonderful werewolf tales you’re about to read, then.

A couple of my friends write about witches, and they’re great fun. And one of my personal favs is Kim Harrison. I’m reading her latest urban fantasy right now.

Hi Linda — thanks for being here today! I must say it’s all about the characters so whatever shape they take I’m usually ok with that.

    • Linda Thomas-Sundstrom

Sue - it is a pleasure being here. Thanks for the invitation to talk about my work.

Characters are everything, I agree. There are masters at characterization that I love to read as soon as their books hit the shelves- like Evanovich. With a long series, she provides the opportunity for readers to really get to know her continuing characters. We feel at home with them, and most of us would want Stephanie for a friend. That’s the height of characterization, for sure.

  • Karyn Gerrard

I am vampire all the way, though have read a few werewolf ones lately that appeal, and your sound wonderful!
I also love historical, and continue to be surprised there isn’t a stronger ‘historical/paranormal’ genre!
To me, seems like a perfect marriage!

    • sue

Hey there — both Colleen Gleason & Kathryn Smith wrote historical paranormals — ck them out & see what you think?

      • Linda Thomas-Sundstrom

Yes - it seems to be a tough sale at the moment. I also have a historical gothic paranormal I’d like to see on the shelves. But maybe the fever will continue to spread, in the future, and more historical folks will begin to crave the next step. I’m hoping for that. The mix is terrific. Fingers are crossed.

  • Kirsten

I’m relatively new to the paranormal romances but have read several including vampires. Like the Lynsay sands and Charlaine Harriss series. I loved them, didn’t think I would but I really do. I also love wolfs but hav not read that many stories about them yet. Can’t choose really.

    • Linda Thomas-Sundstrom

Hey - why choose? Vamps and Weres are both great… but I really really love the wolves. I also go for the “warm.” Plus, you can sleep (as in snoring) with a werewolf on his good days. As for vampires, well, your timing is off, right? You sleep, he prowls, and vice versa. Wouldn’t that drive you nuts? HA !

And full moons are sexy in themselves. Add a hot guy tearing off his clothes and well …. geez.

  • Teresa W.

The Paranormal is my favorite genre to read, with vamps being my favorites! I also enjoy werewolves, I’m always looking for new authors and series to read.

    • Linda Thomas-Sundstrom

OOh - try mine. My Weres aren’t the norm, I guarantee. They’re (mostly) normal folks with a bit of tweaking. You can hold their hands (if you can hook up with one) twenty-eight days a month. And the added danger of those other three nights could be magic. Right? Mister Right with a slight DNA difference.

    Great interview, Linda!
I’m a fan of many kinds of paranormals–light and funny, dark and steamy–all are fun. :) Yours sound wonderful!!

  • Catherine Kean

Your books sound fabulous, Linda! Great covers, too. I loved this sentence: “writing and reading dark paranormal fare is like eating very dark chocolate.” Yum! Great description.

    • Linda Thomas-Sundstrom

Yep - probably a great way to diet would be just to read all the time… You with me on this? Forego the chocolate, and hope that vicarious running, with the wolves, ought to do it. Suspense that makes the heart patter should be close second - in a perfect world. Love those kinds of books that combine both love and rapid heeartbeats.

I haven’t read a lot of werewolf lit, but your first scene sounds fabulous! I’m fine with vampires, werewolves, and any other paranormal beings, and I love it when authors tweak the standard mythologies to suit the stories they want to tell.

    Hi Linda,
I’ve got to admit, I love vampires the best. So I’ll look forward to your series next year!

The whole “imprinting” thing is fascinating to me and sets up the “no, I don’t wanna, oh, but I gotta” scenario for your couple. Brilliant.

I’m not a huge vampire fan. I like my guys to have a temperature and a heartbeat.

I love both vamps and werewolves but, at the moment, I am really into angels. You just can’t beat the wings.

  • Rowena Cherry

Linda, your covers are absolutely gorgeous. I enjoy werewolf stories.

I love this initiative by Sue and Borders. I think I’m going to buy Borders stock and bet on their success. BGP for around $1.00

IMHO, all authors should support BGP. Hey, Borders how about giving authors who contribute to your pages stock options! Or, how about offering shareholder perks… give ebooks to your shareholders.

    • Linda Thomas-Sundstrom

Yeah, Rowena. That’d be great. I think I upped their stock yesterday when I found the “buy 3 get one free” romance sale at my local store, and stocked up.

Now, if Borders only sold SHELVING …

Thanks for the comment. I love both Nocturne covers, too. Hot and eye-catching. I lucked out!

Red for February is so appropriate, too, n’est ce pas? RED WOLF, red hot. For one of my February book signings I’m giving away little packages of red hots with the books. That should cinch it, and make the evening combustable for the senses. (see me laughing?)

So glad you like the covers. And what’s inside is even better, some say. Great reviews are coming in, and I’m thrilled.

    • Linda Thomas-Sundstrom

Thanks, Vicki! The highest honor, and what keeps an author writing (besides the overwhelming compulsion to do so) is the hope that others will read what we write. I’m always thrilled when someone picks up my stories. I love it if we connect, and readers like what I have to say.
What a combination - vulnerable artists meet readers.
I suppose it’s always been that way, but the process is fascinating. A small piece of the writer goes into each book….
