Guest Author, Shiloh Walker & Giveaway!
by sue on Dec.16, 2009, under Book Chat
Shiloh Walker has been writing since she was a kid. She fell in love with vampires with the book Bunnicula and has worked her way up to the more…ah…serious vampire stories. She loves reading and writing anything paranormal, anything fantasy, and nearly every kind of romance. Once upon a time she worked as a nurse, but now she writes full time and lives with her family in the Midwest.

Hunter’s Need, by Shiloh Walker
Setting: Contemporary, set in Alaska
Subgenre: Paranormal/Shapeshifters
Hero: Duke Lawson
Heroine: Ana Morrell
One sentence summary: A reluctant hero and an even more reluctant heroine have to overcome their troubled past to help the ghost of a murdered woman find justice.
Scene you like most and would never cut: Probably the scene where Duke surprises Ana after he shows up in Alaska, without letting her know he was coming. She’s tired, she’s cranky, she’s pissed off and for the first time, she doesn’t try to be polite…and that amuses the hell out of Duke.
Thing your heroine would never be caught dead doing/saying: Hard to say, because Ana changes a lot in this book-she hates conflict and tries to avoid it, but in the story, she has to place herself in right in the middle of a huge conflict. She’s not much for vampires, though—she has a deep, deep fear of them because of events that happened in an earlier book, so she’s not very likely to go chasing after a vamp and saying, “Oh, please, please bite me…”
Your hero, is he a boxer or brief kind of guy: Boxer-briefs. Or nothing.
Ancillary character you had the most fun with: Brad, Ana’s younger brother. He’s a cocky kid with a lot of power and he’s way too intelligent for his own good.
Your heroine’s favorite hobby: Photography or reading.
Your hero’s favorite hobby: Reading. Hiking. Annoying Ana.
What you think readers will like best about this book: Hopefully the characters…Ana isn’t the typical butt-kicking heroine you see in paranormals. She’s psychic, but she’s human. She’s spent the past four years of her life surrounded by vampires and werewolves and witches—she views herself as weak, and while she definitely isn’t Buffy the Vampire slayer material, she’s got a deep inner strength. She doesn’t see that, but Duke does…he sees the strength, just as he sees her flaws, and he loves her, all of her.
The person that readers want you to write about but you haven’t yet: Up until this past year, the answer to that would be Nessa, the witch who appeared in my earlier Hunter books. But I finished her book, so I guess the next character would be Morne, the healer who appeared in Through the Veil.
What’s next: I’m currently working on a romantic suspense trilogy that will be out in 2011 from Ballantine. The tentative titles are : If You Hear Her, If You See Her and If You Know Her.
Giveaway: Five signed copies of Hunter’s Need.

Was going to try and do another skim thru comments, but I finally got my sick rotten (plus now an extra sick one thrown into the mix) and I’m wiped out. I worry if I try to read much of anything now, my eyes will cross… O_O
I do want to thank the ladies at True Romance for having me, though… it’s been a lot of fun and enjoyed chatting with everybody.

December 16th, 2009 on 5:47 pm
*G* The DH brought me home a bottle of wine the night.
December 16th, 2009 on 4:35 pm
Can I just say that my eyes just about popped out of my head when I saw the cover to The Hottie Next Door! I wish I had a neighbor like that.
And Congrats on the new release!
December 16th, 2009 on 5:47 pm
It is a good cover, yes?
December 16th, 2009 on 3:55 pm
I’m not usually a paranormal person, but this book sounds good. I’ve read The Missing & Fragile and I can’t wait for Broken to come out in March.
December 16th, 2009 on 5:47 pm
The suspense aspect probably plays as much into this story as the paranormal…if that helps. :o)
December 16th, 2009 on 2:57 pm
Congrats on the release! I love books set in Alaska and this one sounds great!
December 16th, 2009 on 5:48 pm

Hi Shiloh, I love the Hunter series, and haven’t had a chance to grab Hunter’s Need yet. So glad to hear that Morne will be getting her own story, I really enjoyed the world in Lifting The Veil.
December 16th, 2009 on 2:28 pm
If you pick up Need, hope you enjoy!
December 16th, 2009 on 1:20 pm
Ana sounds like the kind of heroine I like. 1) human and 2)not so busy proving she’s kick-ass that she does really stupid things just to prove it!
December 16th, 2009 on 2:27 pm
Ass-kicking to the point of stupidity…that’s a head->desk moment sometimes, isn’t it?
December 16th, 2009 on 12:59 pm
I’m going to be kind of in and out… I’m reading all replies, but I’m trying to juggle in with a sick roten, so I may be hit or miss. (somebody, please send valium or a martini)
December 16th, 2009 on 2:06 pm

December 16th, 2009 on 12:53 pm
I already have Hunter’s Need. It’s in my TBR mountian, near the top. I love the Hunters. Have been reading them since they started at EC. I was in the interview that Nessa’s story is done. Any idea how long we have to wait to read it?
Happy Holidays
December 16th, 2009 on 12:58 pm
It will be out in either late 2010 or in 2011, Beth… the title is HUNTER’S FALL. :o)
December 16th, 2009 on 12:52 pm
OH! Another new Shiloh Walker book on which to glom. Love when another of your books is released… and I can’t wait to read Hunter’s Need. I’ve loved every single one of the Hunter books; they just keep getting better and better and they were wonderful to begin with.
I’m also one of those fans that have you on my auto-buy, gotta read NOW list. Thank you for the hours and hours of escapism and serious enjoyment… and the sweaty, steamy sex!
And your as yet unwritten series… wow! Okay, that’s going to be a long wait… but worth it.
December 16th, 2009 on 2:28 pm
Auto-buy is one of the nicest things you can say to a writer.
December 16th, 2009 on 12:50 pm
Hi, Shiloh! Congratulations on “Hunter’s Need”! What do you most enjoy about the writing process? The story creation, character development, editing, or seeing the finished product? Do you enjoy the promotional aspect of being a published author?
Happy Holidays!

Only about three months left…not long!
December 16th, 2009 on 11:44 am

Hi Shiloh
Just wanted to drop in & say how much I love your books. Since I’ve read just about everything you’ve written, I continue to marvel at the maturity, emotion & passion of your writing (not to mention the great sex LOL). So excited about the upcoming romantic suspense. Fragile & The Missing are still some of my all-time fave books ever. Just waiting for Broken. Don’t enter me as I already won an ARC of Hunter’s Need. Best wishes.
December 16th, 2009 on 7:51 am
Hunter looks great!
December 16th, 2009 on 7:37 am
I’m new to Ms. Walker’s work but I’ve seen this book everywhere lately, the premise is very intriguing and I really like that annoying the heroine is your hero’s favorite hobby, lol!
December 16th, 2009 on 12:18 pm
LMAO. A great hero and heroine should be able to annoy each other, don’t you think? ;o) One of my personal fave hobbies is definitely annoying the DH.
December 16th, 2009 on 7:22 am
Hi everybody…. thanks for dropping by.
Sue, thanks for having me.
