Setting: Earth, and the planet Honor
Subgenre: Futuristic romance, paranormal dragon shape shifters
Hero: Rion, King of Honor
Heroine: Marisa, dragon telepath
One sentence summary: When Honor is enslaved by Earth’s ancient enemy, Rion kidnaps Marisa with the hope she’ll employ her unique telepathic skills to save his people.
Scene you like most and would never cut: “Meditation works better in silence,” Marisa said calmly. “Seems to me your mediation isn’t working.” Rion’s tone oozed charm. “There are better ways to relax.”"Like?” Marisa couldn’t prevent a tiny smile from raising the corners of her lips.
His dark gaze flicked to her mouth, tracked it with hot male interest. He’d taken her smile for an opening. Of course, he would. She doubted anyone had ever told Mr. irresistible, no. Approaching with a long-legged saunter that made her eyes narrow with speculation, he sat on the mat behind her. She should pull away until she knew what he was up to. But she couldn’t. Now when he looked so damn good. He went still behind her, drawing out a moment of silence that thrummed with tension. Her sizzling awareness of him seemed to fill the space between them with a rush of heat . . .
Thing your heroine would never be caught dead doing/saying: “I need help.”
Your hero, is he a boxer or brief kind of guy: commando
Ancillary character you had the most fun with: the baby dragons. Especially when they try to ride on top of a dog.
Your heroine’s favorite hobby:Researching about dragons shapers. Marisa wasn’t born a dragon shaper. She became one later in life and she finds the process of changing from human to dragon form and back fascinating. But like any new powers, her people must learn how to use them and Marisa devotes herself to learning as much as she can about her new ability to fly and to breathe fire.
Your hero’s favorite hobby: Sex.
What do you think readers will like best about this book: The emotional connection between Rion and Marisa is very strong. These two aren’t kids. Yes, they are dragon shapers from two different worlds. Yes, they have many problems. But they are mature adults and as they face down their enemies, they grow not only as individuals but as a couple. Yet it is because they are so strong individually, that it’s difficult for them to be vulnerable enough to fall in love. Watching their struggle with love . . . is what the story is about. Throw in a little bit of Arthurian legend, mix it with a hot romance, dragons and a fast-paced plot . . . and many readers will enjoy the romance.
The person that readers want you to write about but you haven’t yet: I get questions all the time about Lucan and Cael’s baby dragon twins. We need to give them time to grow up . . . and then they shall have their own stories.
What’s next: I’m planning my daughter’s wedding!!
I wish I could give every romance reader a free copy of RION. I love this genre and I’d like to share it with everyone. I’ve written romantic suspense, science fiction, historical and contemporary romance, but paranormal books are up there at the top of my list. And futuristics are by far my favorites. Why? Because I get to explore different cultures, different societies, different worlds. But it’s all about the romance. It’s about two people who fall in love. Sure dragons shaping is a little out there. But so are Vampires and we can’t turn around in the bookstore without seeing one of them. My books aren’t about high technology. They are romances–set in a different time, a different place. The future is out there waiting for you. And so are my sexy dragons!
So here is my question to readers: How often do you try a new-to-you Author? How often do you try a new sub genre?
GIVEAWAY: 5 lucky randomly chosen winners will receive a copy of LUCAN and RION.

Great Interview! Another good one to add to the TBR pile. I’m usually open to new authors but have a harder time being convinced to read try something new.
December 13th, 2009 on 12:45 am
I love to try new authors and do so often. As for subgenres I am rather flexible. I will try a book for any genre as long as the plot sounds really good.

Hi Susan! Thank you for being here today. I love your books. I try new authors all of the time, it makes life more interesting. I do try different sub-genres but there I am a little more selective.
Congratulations on your daughter’s wedding! What a fun time for you and your family. We just had a daughter get married a few months ago. I know how busy you are right now! Don’t forget to have a good time yourself!

I seem to try new authors all the time. I think I only read a handful of books written by my favorite authors (the only publish a couple–if that many a year), leaving lots of time for me to find new authors. New genres, not-so-much. Sometimes I leave genres and stay away for a bit, but then I usually find a way back to them. I did try paranormal romance this year, and loved it. Before I was more concerned with contemporary romance and urban fantasy. I also reintroduced myself into historical romance (I usually only read Julia Quinn).

I read new to me all the time. I either find them by recs online or reading excerpts online or winning them online. I’ve found some of my very favorite authors that way.
December 12th, 2009 on 10:23 pm
I love trying new to me authors, as a matter of fact I do all the time. But I don’t try many new genres that are outside the paranormal/fantasy genres. Though sub genres of fantasy I’m more open minded about trying since I’ve always been fascinated by anything paranormal.
Good luck in your new adventure as a wedding planner for your daughter.

I am very open to trying new authors in any sub-genre but usually it’s based on a very good review or info I learned of the author.
December 12th, 2009 on 8:09 pm
I try new authors often. But I admit with my tight budget I rely on giveaways like this to make it possible. It is a gamble to try out new authors so I rely on libraries and friends.
December 12th, 2009 on 7:35 pm
I am always trying out new authors. I already read most sub-genres.
December 12th, 2009 on 6:44 pm
I have tried more new authors in the last two years than I can count. I look forward to finding new favorite writers/books.
December 12th, 2009 on 6:04 pm
I always check out new books and authors to see what there is new to read.
December 12th, 2009 on 6:04 pm
I try new authors all the time! Sub genres….not so much. But authors, all the time! Great interview! I can’t wait to read RION!!:-)
December 12th, 2009 on 4:26 pm
I frequently try new authors. If the blurb is intriguing to me I’ll definitely buy it. I’m also greatly influenced by my fellow reader’s recommendations, especially when it comes to new genres. I wouldn’t be reading any YA if it weren’t for those mentioning their love of The Hunger Games books (which I’m fully enamored with now).
December 12th, 2009 on 3:51 pm
I try new-to-me authors all the time. If a cover really grabs my attention, or if I hear a lot of buzz on other blogs… Genres on the other hand, are different. I don’t really stray out of my paranormal zone (I read urban fantasy, paranormal romance, and young adult UF/PRN) because to me there’s no appeal without paranormal creatures.
December 12th, 2009 on 2:49 pm
I have no problems trying out new sub-genres or new-to-me-authors. My issue (before I discovered the world of romance/scifi/fantasy blogs) was *finding* them. Now when I read a review or even just a “hey look what I found” post on some blogs I have a name to check out.
December 12th, 2009 on 2:49 pm
I try new authors real often. I love new authors to me and to get there debut books is a treat! I also read a little of everything although historicals are my first chose, but I switch around a lot. I will read historcals then switch to paranormals or suspense, depends on my mood. Lately its been anything that has a Christmas theme.
December 12th, 2009 on 2:41 pm
I’m always willing to give a new author a try in romantic suspense and historicals because I those books the most. It took me a while before I read my first urban fantasy book. I really enjoyed it, but really haven’t looked at other titles in that genre.
December 12th, 2009 on 1:32 pm
I try new authors fairly often. Just started reading Karen Rose because a friend recommended her. I usually try them if they come highly recommended or if the premise sounds like something I would like.
I read a variety of genre and sub-genre so there really isn’t anything I haven’t tried. I don’t like horror but other that I’ll try just about any sub-genre as long as the story sounds interesting.
December 12th, 2009 on 1:21 pm
I’m always trying new authors, especially because I’m sometimes asked for my thoughts on specific ARCs. And since I read almost everything, I don’t have many new subgenres to try :). I’m more limited by time than anything else; I wish I had time to read everything I want but the TBR pile has expanded to TBR boxes over the past several years. So I’m behind on my reading and I haven’t read this series yet but it sounds great (paranormals are my favorite subgenre of romance)!
December 12th, 2009 on 1:08 pm
I try new authors all the time. I go to the library about once a week and always try to pick out at least one new author.
December 12th, 2009 on 12:45 pm
I’ll try new authors or sub genres when someone mentions that they are good or if they are loaned or given to me.
December 12th, 2009 on 12:42 pm
I don’t try new authors too frequently buut if I find a book that sounds really good or got good reviews I’ll try it. I always try reading different subgenres to become introduced to new situations, but I still want the romace and HEA.
December 12th, 2009 on 12:28 pm
This year I’ve tried more new authors than I ever have before and I’ve been lucky that I liked most of the ones I’ve tried.
I rarely try new subgenres though. I guess I am not that adventurous.
December 12th, 2009 on 11:58 am
I don’t try new-to-you authors that often, but I will try a new sub genre. I tend to happen upon all of the books that I read. That is how I find new authors. In the past, recommended authors and books weren’t to my liking.
December 12th, 2009 on 11:44 am
I try new authors quite frequently - especially if they are in a sub genre I enjoy such as paranormal or Sci-fi/Fantasy Romance. Bloggers/reviewers are my biggest motivators out there to try a new book or even a new genre. I never thought I’d touch a historical or regency until several blogs normally dedicated to paranormal “raved” about certain titles and the rest was history….I have a historical shelf now!
December 12th, 2009 on 11:41 am
I try new authors frequently. That’s one of the main reasons I visit book blogs–to find out what I’ve been missing!
December 12th, 2009 on 11:40 am
i’m always reading new authors. although i research a bit (i.e., book blog recommendations, amazon.com reviews and star ratings), if i like the book’s blurb and the reviews are fairly okay, i’m buying that new author’s book. so far, i’m liking most of what i’m reading
it’s the same for sub-genres–as long as there’s that central romance, i’m all for trying new ones. however, i prefer mainstream romances and tend to stay away from eroticas and christian romances. i see these two as being on the opposite sides of the richter scale of romance–i prefer that middle ground.
December 12th, 2009 on 10:11 am
I do try new authors when I can. I have been reading more fantasy this year than I have before. It seems like there is more out there. I read just about any genre, so I’m never at a loss finding something to read.
December 12th, 2009 on 9:33 am
I also try new authors fairly often. Probably one in every two or three books I read is by a new to me author. For subgenres…maybe a bit less often than that, but still some of the time.
Congrats on your daughter’s wedding! =)
December 12th, 2009 on 8:44 am
Hi Susan

first at all: congrats to your daughter and have fun planning the wedding *hug*
I think half of the books I read are from new-to-me authors (maybe a little more) and the other half are series which are keepers in my bookshelf… and at the moment I read almost everything that has a paranormal touch - it seems I can’t get enough of it…but that isn’t bad news
thanks for your post - your books sound great and they are already on my wishlist!
Wish you all the best,
Ina

Hi, Susan! Congratulations on your daughter’s upcoming wedding. Thank you for this great giveaway!
I know that you are a fabulous fiction writer! I’ve checked out your website, excerpts and reviews. The blogs I read have been full of praise for your books. This past year or so, mostly thanks to my trusty PC, I have found and become a diehard fan of many new authors and books. The book review webistes and the book bloggers do a great job of informing the public about authors and their book releases. Also, the authors themselves are very savvy about promoting their own work.
The variety of fiction genres available to readers is astounding! As the interest has grown in broadening reading horizons, the quality of the work has improved in order for the writer to reach the top of the ladder. The creative writing world is very competitive, and the playing field is populated by many worthy contenders!

I’ve been trying some new Authors lately. and I enjoyed it so far.
pretty amazing knowing there’re so many Authors that i don’t still know about their Great Books and Awesome works ! I may say that it’s including You and your books
as for the genre, i’m kindda prefer anything that has mystery, paranormal, suspense, and romance in it.
December 12th, 2009 on 2:52 am
I try new autors pretty often. I’m especially excited about first books because I know the gestation period would be longer than for second and third books. While the craft may be lacking (or not), the heart is nearly always there. To be frank, I’m more confident about an author’s first few books than her 101st.
I’m gung ho about variations and newer subgenres as long as the primary story is that of the romance between the h/H.
