@Estella I think books are a better form of escapism than movies. For me, it's so much easier just to let the outside world fade away.

@StephS My need for the HEA started when I was working in a home for adjudicated youth. Spending my days with boys that had been abused and raped and were continuing the cycle, left me needing some happy stories.

Isn't it amazing how you can connect with so many other readers online now? It really is great to talk over what worked and what didn't.

@Lisa G Isn't that the best feeling...When you can completely leave your current condition and enter a whole new setting and situation. Sometimes you just need to get away any which way you can...

@Laurie EC I agree. Books within the romance genre have the ability to truly highlight feminine strength. We don't really see that in other genres.

@Lori Green I love that idea. I've picked up some books already for friends but making up a gift basket would be a great gift for them.

For the longest time I read romance for the Calgon moments and the romantic escapism. But the genre has changed so much (I first started reading it in the 1980s) that now it's like anything I read: good writing and good stories that I can lose myself in.

And since I refuse to be embarrassed by my reading tastes, I've found a number women both online and in my real life that I can share books with and talk romance.

As an aside: I just got a box of HQN books I ordered and they're going in gift baskets for co-workers. Share the love!

I read romance because I'm fascinated with feminine strength, particularly in relation to other people. To me, no other genre explores this subject in such a satisfying way.

I'm a calgon-take-me-away type of girl! When I read a book I want to be able to forget everything around me. I don't want to be bothered and I won't bother anyone else either. LOL! Just me and my book!

I was drawn to romance originally for the guaranteed HEA which I wasn't finding in mysteries or literary fiction. I still like the adventure and "who done it's" though so I suppose that is why I'm drawn more to the paranormal romances and urban fantasies. I also like the online romance reader communities since I don't have anyone in "real life" that I can talk romance with.
