The Passage

Keep your eyes peeled for an impressive new novel about a vampire apocalypse. It’s not officially on-sale until Summer 2010, but after getting a sneak peek, I can say that it calls to minds greats like I Am Legend and the Stand.
I don’t think that this is the final cover, but I like it.
Speaking of things upcoming… Steven, are you willing to give us any tidbits about what you’re working on next? Will we see another novel of the Change? Following events of Elegy Beach, will you continue to play in this post-apocalyptic world?

Thanks for asking, Morgan! I’m about to finalize a novel before submitting it to my agent, but I tend not to talk about books until after I have an idea of when (and sometimes if) they’ll be released. I think this is the best thing I’ve written, though.
Re the Change, a lot of elements in ELEGY BEACH certainly seem to want to be explored further. I intend to pursue that, but to be honest ideas themselves just aren’t enough to make me write a book. I need theme, resonance, character, and probably other things I’m totally unware of. I know what it’s like to be disappointed when a writer keeps pushing out books on a popular subject or background (I don’t say “series” because I have never thought of myself as writing such a thing), and I don’t want to disappoint my readers or myself. So the short answer is, probably, at some point I will do another Change book, but I can’t say when.
Wasn’t all that elusive enough to make you think I’m running for some kind of office?
