So good it’s great

Today we segue from B-movies to the best in SF&F on TV. Rather than impose my favorites on you, I’m just going to make a list, and you’re going to tell me your favorites. But wait, there’s more! Not only must you pick a favorite show–you must also choose a favorite episode. Mind you, the shows you name must still be making new episodes now. I realize there’s a huge number of awesome SF&F shows in the past, but we’re not going there today. If we were, I’d certainly name BSG; I’m watching that right now. But alas, it has ended.
And here we go:
Supernatural
Vampire Diaries
Eureka
Flashforward
Sanctuary
Warehouse 13
Dollhouse
True Blood
Doctor Who
Torchwood*
Fringe
Ghost Whisperer
Smallville
Heroes
Stargate Universe
*put it on list as current, even though I’m not sure if it’s coming back
Those are all the shows I can think of. Which ones am I missing? You can add to the list by naming shows, but I’d also like you to name your favorite episode of the show you like best.
What are the best of the best?

Supernatural is no. 1 for me. I love the exploration of good vs. evil in all in all the blurry shades of gray.
Last season’s finale, “Sympathy for the Devil”, was super-powerful. You had Sam doing the wrong thing for the right reason. And don’t even get me started on what the angels were doing. Thumbs up from me. Oh, and the music is killer:) Love the opening montages.

Deb, for me Supernatural and Fringe would be in a high-octane cage match. They’d all be sweaty and growling, except for Walter. He’d be making pithy, amusing remarks from the sidelines on totally unrelated topics.

Boyfriend loves Fringe. And he’s not a s/f/f guy.
And I screwed up. “Sympathy for the Devil” was not the right title for the ep I mention. Don’t know why I had that in my head.

Well, it’s a great song! *g* I think I know the episode you mean.
Fringe is a fascinating show and Walter is a wonderful character. Your BF has great taste. So do you, as I love both shows.

Futurama! It’s coming back, therefore it is current. I have spoken.
Favorite episode is a three-way tie: the episode about Fry’s dog always makes me choke up, the Episode where Leela gets stabbed by the bees and almost dies but has to best friggin coma dream ever (probably the most accurate portrayal of the horrifying weirdness of dreams I’ve ever seen on tv) and the episode wher Bender meets God.
Such a good show.

Dr Who, Warehouse 13, Dollhouse, Torchwood, Ghost Whisperer, Fringe and Sanctuary are the only shows I watch off the list, mainly because shows like Smallville and Heroes seem to be aiming for a teenage audience, and I’ve not been a teenager in a LONG time.
I notice you did NOT mention Stargate Universe, which is creatively consulted by John Scalzi, SF author extraordinare, and that you did mention the Sarah Jane Chronicles which was canceled and is no longer being produced, from what I gather, by the BBC and shown in America.
I loved the Silence in the Library episodes of Dr Who, though I have enjoyed most of the new Dr Who eps, and the same goes for Warehouse 13, though I liked the ep with the pen from EA Poe that wrought havoc. Sanctuary really doesn’t do much for me, though they had an ep where they went into the background of the main character, played by Stargate Barbie,Amanda Tapping, whom I find to be a one-note actress, but the other characters are interesting so I tend to watch it for them.
I like the Dollhouse ep where Ballard and November first got together, and then the one where she revealed that she was from the Dollhouse, but I think the guy who plays Ballard (who also played Helo in BSG) to be amazingly hot, and the gal who played November isn’t a skinny supermodel, but has major curves, so that was a satisfying relationship to watch.
Fringe, I liked last seasons finale with a surprise appearance by Spock, and I find Peter the smart guy to be very attractive in that show, but then, I am also a fan of Walter the mad scientist. Ghost Whisperer leaves me crying every episode, but I enjoyed the episode with the ghost kids from the 1950s orphanage the most of the recent eps I’ve watched.

Dr. Who, but choosing a favorite episode is hard (also, I’ve only seen the first three seasons). I’m going to cheat and pick by Dr.
For Eccleston, The Empty Child & The Doctor Dances (a two-parter). For Tennant, Blink. Creepy, creepy episodes. I don’t normally like creepy so it’s strange that these are my favorites.

Oh, Adam, your love for Futurama speaks to me. My love for that show isn’t quite right. I wrote a guest blog once about the awesomeness of Frye as a romantic hero. (No, really, I did.) Well, at least in part. See?
True confessions.

I came as ordered, perhaps to discuss my looooooove for Supernatural. Because my love for Supernatural is like the fire of then thousand fiery burning suns. On fire.
I can’t even name my favorite episode because I love them all but I will pick one that I love a teensy bit more than the others…Playthings. It has some of my favorite lines in it. But really I love them all.
I have only started watching the recent Dr. Who, but looooove it.

Aw, bummer. I didn’t know SJA had been canceled. *sad* I removed it from the list and added SU. I didn’t know the first episode had come out yet. Remember, I live in Mexico and what I get to see on TV often comes from other countries, like Argentina, Peru, Bolivia and Brazil. My international cable package is comprised of some interesting stuff!

Supernatural - the one with the lucky rabbit’s foot.
“I’m batman,” said it all.

Wow, you named three of my favorite episodes, Mary! And M, how did you feel about the meta episode of Supernatural? (Love it)

My favorite is Lost and season 3 closing episode, “Through the Looking Glass.”

True Blood for me. I have a ton of fave episodes. The one where Lafayette drinks Eric’s blood and ends up humping the room. LOL
The one where Sookie dreams about Eric.

Supernatural. “Wishful Thinking”
The teddy bear seeing all that was wrong in the world and not wanting to go on any longer, and blowing his (brains) stuffing out was great.

Hello — Have to vote for Fringe.. sometimes the episode story is so so but the overarching one keeps me coming back — episode would be There is more then one of everything; great foreshadowing in the episode…
