Why You Rule

Brent & Joe,
It has been a blast having you on Babel Clash. Thank you for sharing your battle of wits.
With your last post or two, do you want to close with one final argument? Say, hypothetically, that a reader can only read one fantastic, brilliant book this summer. He or she whittles his choice of authors down to Joe Abercrombie and Brent Weeks. Which book should this reader choose, and why?
How’s that for putting you guys on the spot?

- Are you game? Video game novels are trendy. Warcraft, Halo, Gear of War & Bioshock are games with novel tie-ins out or coming soon. So, Brent & Joe, to hypothetically assume the luxury of spare time, is there any franchise out there for which you’d want to write a novel? Or, even better…...

Simple economics, Morgan. Given equal brilliance (I feel bad for obliterating Joe in all the previous posts, so I’ll cede this highly arguable point for free), what should you buy: a great read that costs $25, or a great read that costs $8? You could buy the entire Night Angel trilogy and you’d _still_ come out ahead. That said, after they’re done, I’d still encourage everyone to pick up Joe’s books…from the library.

Morgan made it clear that readers are only allowed ONE brilliant book for the summer…so if we side with you, Brent, we’ll be left in the middle of a series, whereas Joe’s book is a standalone (perhaps a prophetic maneuver on his part, having forseen this very argument) and will give readers all the closure they need. The nod must go to Best Served Cold (which, it should be pointed out, is only $16.49 on Amazon). Plus, while Durzo is excellent and all, it would be downright HEINOUS to deny anyone the right to spend part of their summer with Friendly and Nicomo Cosca.
Don’t get me wrong, Brent, I read your books and loved them. I’m just making the logical choice here…even if it does leave a bitter taste in my mouth since Joe so cruelly denied me an ARC of Best Served Cold.

Three Brent Weeks for $24 or one Joe Abercrombie for $25? You’re STILL getting better value with me…

Thank you for that very interesting.
