Save $300 in 30 days
Last post I mentioned the advice of packing a lunch in order to save money. Well before you can pack a lunch, you still have to buy the materials. Here is a video from “The Coupon Mom” Stephanie Nelson giving us advice on how to reduce our grocery bill by utilizing coupons. (Love that she is in the Yogi Tea aisle.)
Cut your bill from $114.28 before coupons to just $1.62 after? You can bet I will be checking my Sunday paper for coupons on Guinness.
For our friends partaking in the healthy eating challenge, see below for the good news.

Wonderful video! I am excited to go grocery shopping next!
When I saw the video (I couldn’t see it here so I went to YouTube) I was amazed. I shop at Kroger all the time. I never clip coupons but this has inspired me to try tomorrow (Sunday paper). I loved it.
you’ve got to be kidding — i USE coupons every time I go shopping and never have such a low bill — sure she bought 6 packages of razers — with her coupons — but where was her milk, butter, eggs, etc.? if I buy only what I have a coupon for how would I buy meat, fruit, vegetables? Please…. she makes people feel guilty and they run out to buy her book but still owe the grocery big $$
yeah, but
why is it that I tried to leave a comment and couldn’t anyway — just try and buy food with only coupons and I USE coupons every time I shop — but still don’t have what this woman has at the check out — could it be she didn’t buy meat, eggs, juice, etc.
If you use coupons, you save on processed foods or non food items, I use coupons but don’t save large amounts I would like to save more but I don’t like processed items like TV dinners or canned.
As an avid coupon user, it is possible to save big. I have grocery bills go from $100.00 to $15.00. Sometimes you can get coupons for produce and meat, but it is rare. It is also true that while they do have coupons for some healthful items, the majority of coupons are for processed and non-food items. I have found that it is better to buy healthy foods, and learn to eat only till satisfied. Coupons are very helpful for stocking up non-food items, but the processed stuff is just not good for you.
I agree with many people here. It is great to use coupons for non-food items & processed food. There are times when I would save up to $30 on a shopping trip. I felt so accomplished leaving the store paying $5 for 10-15 non-food items. But all of this takes time. Coupons must be cut & organized then you have to make trips to different stores to buy items according to their sales in the weekly fliers. It only makes sense to visit multiple stores if they are close together.
Also, sometimes coupons make you spend rather than save money. My boss stopped using coupons b/c she realized she was buying items she normally wouldn’t have bought only b/c she had coupons.
Now I rarely use grocery coupons. My eating & purchasing habits have changed so I am not able to use many of the coupons from the paper. But I still look at weekly fliers for all non-food items & go to those stores & stock up.
What if you don’t buy pre-packaged foods? I am a cheapo and use coupons as often as I can, but mostly for non-food items. However, it’s the food that kills my budget! Fresh fruit and veggies — and even the frozen ones — are more expensive, and you can’t stock up on fresh fruit
Nonetheless, I’m still gonna check out her website to see if I can shave any extra $$
This guy Michael is quite handsome. Is he available?
I don’t always stay on the topic!
She is a pretty ridicules shopper overall though. I would love to see the cashier’s face as Couponmom hands over a stack of 45 coupons
I’m quite a coupon clipper myself and several times have given the cashier more than 20 coupons. However, I’ve never brought my bill down that much The most overall that I average is 33 to 50 percent overall because I can’t find a coupon for all the things that I buy. In addition, I buy a lot of store brands, so there’s an automatic savings. I also buy the sale, 2 for 1, and half price or clearance items. But still the bill never has gotten that low. I guess I’d have to buy the book to see what I’m missing.
I bought her book. She has some great ideas in it and I am already saving at least $40 a week. First week I saved $65 just by looking at shopping at different stores and comparing prices. It took me 2 hours work to prepare and research - but you know what - it was worth it and now I look at shopping as a challenge to get bargains. This week it only took me 45 min to prep. Some of her suggestions are to write to manufacturers and ask for coupons - I did and got over $15/week - for products that I use. I also learned from her to use the online shopping carts” for local stores. They list their specials and I bring my list and only buy what is on my list. That’s where the big savings is - only buying what’s on your list. Yes I go to 3 stores - but they are all close by. Her website has a great “coupon organizer” section and tool. I have been collecting and using coupons for many years but was never as organized as her ideas suggests - and its all online to organize. Check it out…. it is definitely worth it for me - thank you for bringing her to my attention.
